SKKU ranked among Top 10 in “THE Asia University Rankings 2019”
Seoul National University ranked 9th in the Asian university rankings last year, which is the highest among Korean universities. SKKU ranked 10th and joined the top 10 Asian universities for the first time. Korea University, Kyunghee University, and Hanyang University also rose by more than five steps compared to last year.
Times Higher Education (THE), the UK's leading global university evaluation agency, announced its 2019 THE Asia University Rankings 2019.
A total of 417 universities from 27 countries participated in the evaluation. The number of universities in Korea increased by two from last year, which leads to a total of 29 universities. Maeil Business News Korea exclusively reports the university rankings of Korea. The top university in Asia went to Tsinghua University of China. The second place went to National University of Singapore, and the third went to Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
SKKU ranked 67th in the global evaluation this year and ranked 10th among Asian universities. Previously, it ranked 13th in Asia. SKKU received 60.4 points in educational condition sector(56.2 points in 2018), 64.2 points in research achievements(60.4 points), 74.8 points in paper citation numbers(69.5 points), 96.9 points in research-business cooperation revenues(93.7 points), and 48.8 points in international programs(44.7 points). Including the research-business cooperation revenue division, which has already been highly evaluated, SKKU showed a significant increase in every evaluation criteria. Although there are no first-ranked items in the domestic universities, SKKU increased in its rankings among all evaluated criteria.
SKKU has decided to promote the "Student Success" as its new vision keyword. It launched the first Student Success Center in Korea last March. Sang-Hoon Baek, head of the SKKU Student Success Center, said "The center will provide appropriate services to students who visit the Student Success Center in order to share their thoughts considering the current situation and career path."
