Institute for Anglo-American Cultural Studies introduces
"MBSR Meditation" for students tired of COVID-19
- It introduces a meditation program in the field of contemplative science,
which will overcome times of multiple crises.
Institute for Anglo-American Cultural Studies (Chief: Prof. Son Hye Sook) will begin a meditation program for students who are tired of COVID-19.
Institute for Anglo-American Cultural Studies has been intensively reviewing and studying the field of meditative science for the past two years to improve students' mental health, creativity and leadership. It will present its first program, MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction), in a syndemic situation where various types of diseases and disasters are causing multiple crises.
MBSR, the most influential meditation science program in the U.S., is well-received as a scientific healing model for modern people exposed to various mental and physical problems such as anxiety, stress, and panic disorder. It is used as an educational program in more than 750 universities across the U.S.
Prof. Son Hye Sook said, "Many people are suffering from extreme stress due to the prolonged COVID-19, and Corona Blue is coming up as a social issue. In times of multiple crises such as climate change, various disasters, and instability of the global economic system as well as COVID-19, the existing crisis management manual needs to be combined with a healing model.” In addition, she said, “We should be pay attention to the active introduction of meditation programs into the public education system led by Congress, government, and national institutions in the U.S. from the 2000s.”
MBSR meditation consists of various contents based on mindfulness, such as sitting, walking, eating, breathing, body scan and yoga. It aims to develop physical intelligence, emotional intelligence, creative intelligence and contextual intelligence, and foster social practice skills that can coexist harmoniously with others in the balance of body and mind.
